for MOMENT & the love

Review from the editor:

“HaleLee's works show on many different levels: as street photography and a portrait of the city she's at. As continuous motion photography which shows the river of time flowing through space. As portraiture and personal narrative. The stillness VS movement. There is a perfect (dis)harmony between private and public in her compositions.”

Born in South Korea, HaleLee is a photographer and filmmaker based in Seoul, New York City, and Paris.

HaleLee has won awards such as first place winner of PDN portrait competition, PDN exposure award, Honorable Mention with 2 series at International Photography Of The Year (IPOTY), and 9th ArtSlant Prize Juried Winner in the photography Category. She also won The Chelsea International Competition and she is one of the selected artists at Agora Gallery. Her “Reminiscence” series were reviewed by The School of Journalism.

Meet your photographer, HaleLee

First and foremost, I take photography very seriously. If you are a person who knows the value and importance of a documentary of life in photographs, I will be deeply honored to be your photographer for your day.

At the age of 16, I acquired my very first film camera, and ever since then, my passion for photography has remained unwavering. One of my most cherished endeavors was an 18-month-long documentary project centered around my grandparents and my father. I completed this project towards the end of my high school years and developed the negatives in a school lab in NYC. Reflecting on this experience over time, I've come to realize the profound gratitude I hold for undertaking such a project. It taught me the virtues of patience and the importance of understanding my subjects before capturing their essence through my lens, thereby fostering a deeper connection with the narrative I sought to convey. Immersing myself in the entire analog process also instilled in me a heightened appreciation for the genuine moments and emotions encapsulated in each photograph. Opting for such a personal subject matter allows me to approach my work with a deeply personal touch.

Through the years of my experiences in commercial fields in NYC, I realized more about the value of documenting the feels and moments. Photography has been my philosophy, my visual journal when I wasn’t able to elaborate my opinion with extravagant words, and I believe my photographs can heal and celebrate your moments too.

I am eternally thankful for having the opportunity to pursue and maintain my childhood dreams, as well as for the chance to encounter inspiring individuals from across the globe. What’s your story? ㅡ Let’s create a visual poetry together.
